DENTON (1080 KRLD) - A Denton County roads project more than 30 years in the making was finally completed recently.

Section 5 of the FM 2499 project was wrapped up in November, and county leaders held a ribbon cutting last Friday to celebrate.

"The planning for FM 2499 began in the mid-1980's," says Denton County Commissioner Hugh Coleman.

FM 2499 is a key north-south connector for Denton County traffic, as the road connects the north end of DFW Airport to southern Denton, near the Unicorn Lake area.

"It's just unbelievable," says Coleman.  "It's a great way to get south if you live in Denton, or north if you live in Highland Village or Flower Mound."

In addition to improved traffic flow, Coleman points out that economic development will sprout based on completion of the FM 2499 project.
