American Airlines Vows To Stop Using Plastic Straws, Utensils

July 10, 2018 - 1:51 pm

DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Yesterday, Starbucks announced that it's getting rid of plastic straws from all of its locations within the next two years. MGM Resorts announced the same thing later in the day.  Today, the latest company to eliminate plastic straws is Fort Worth's American Airlines.

American Airlines say it will replace all plastic straws in its airport lounges and on flights with biodegradable straws, and with wooden stir sticks for mixed drinks.

American is also dropping plastic utensils for more ecologically friendly forks, knives and spoons.

The changes should be finished by November of this year.

American says with the change it could get rid of 71,000 pounds of plastic every year.
