GARLAND (KRLD) - A Garland man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for murdering his ex-girlfriend in the middle of a Plano street.

According to KRLD's L.P. Phillips, Jose Cabrera stabbed Ludivina Frias to death on Parker Road after she jumped out of the car. Police say Cabrera chased down Frias and repeatedly stabbed her.

Officer David Tilley with Plano police said one of his officers arrived at the scene in seconds and pulled Cabrera off the victim. It was then discovered that Cabrera had stabbed himself with a knife.

While being transported to a hospital, an officer heard Cabrera saying "mi amor" — "my love" — multiple times.

Cabrera eventually admitted to the murder.
