ARLINGTON (1080 KRLD) - The Arlington Police Department is featured in a new video by the Justice Department’s Community Oriented Policing Services, or COPS.

The video is called, “Arlington, TX: A Community Policing Story.”

Police Chief Will Johnson says the video spotlights the department’s community policing initiatives.

“We felt like this might be something that would add value, not only to the profession, but it would also highlight the strength of Arlington as a community,” says Chief Johnson.

The 27-minute video posted to YouTube gives the viewer an inside look at how the Arlington Police Department responded to a series of tragedies, highlighting the 2015 shooting deaths of Carl Wilson and Christian Taylor.

“These individuals that approached us (with the COPS Office) — they wanted to tell the story of Arlington and what took place, and how that community policing foundation really served us in times of crisis,” says Johnson.

All in all, Johnson is very happy at how the Arlington Police Department is portrayed in the video.

“It gives me a real sense of hometown pride,” he says, “but it also gives me a real compelling sense of urgency that we have much more to do.”
