May 14, 2019 - 7:31 am

DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - A police officer in Baytown, near Houston, shot and killed a woman who took the officer's Taser.

Baytown police say the officer recognized a woman he had dealt with before who had outstanding warrants Monday night.

The officer tried to arrest the woman, but she started struggling. Police say the woman grabbed the officer's Taser and may have used it on the officer.

The officer then shot and killed the woman.

"These are things that kind of force the officers to take action for their own safety," says Baytown Police Lieutenant Steve Dorris. "It's unfortunate, but it looks like it was necessary."

Someone at the apartment complex started shooting video of the exchange and posted footage online.

"It's unfortunate that someone takes a tragic incident like this and starts posting it on social media," Dorris says. "It's extremely disrespectful for everybody involved, but that's the day and age we live in with social media."

Dorris says police would like to speak with the person who shot the video.

The officer was not hurt. He has been with Baytown police 11 years.

Dorris says Baytown police and the Harris County district attorney are now reviewing body camera footage.
