WASHINGTON DC (KRLD) - U.S. Senator Ted Cruz and his wife were chased out of a restaurant by activists against the appointment of U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, a video posted to social media Monday night shows.

Cruz and his wife Heidi were at a restaurant called the Fiola when the activists began chanting "we believe survivors," in reference to the sexual misconduct allegations made against Kavanaugh.

A group called Smash Racism DC posted the video showing the incident.

Beto O'Rourke, the Democrat Party's nominee for the Texas Senate seat, wrote on social media that it is "Not right that Senator Cruz and his wife Heidi were surrounded and forced to leave a restaurant last night because of protesters. The Cruz family should be treated with respect."

A spokeswoman for Cruz confirmed the incident occurred but declined comment to the Austin-American Statesman.

Protesters also rallied against Kavanaugh's nomination outside Cruz's Austin office on Monday, according to the Statesman.
