DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - The Democrat running against Republican Ted Cruz for a seat in the U.S. Senate raised more money than the incumbent Senator over the past three months.

Beto O'Rourke posted a Facebook Live video to announce he had raised $10.4 million.

"That comes from 215,714 individual contributors, most of them from Texas," he said. "The average contribution has been $33 over these last three months, so this is amazing."

Republican Ted Cruz raised $4.6 million over the same period. His campaign says O'Rourke has said he would consider abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement and impeaching President Trump.

"In contrast, Sen. Cruz has spent the last six years successfully fighting for the issues that matter to Texans: promoting jobs, cutting taxes, reducing regulations, securing the border, expanding school choice and defending the Constitution," his campaign wrote in a statement.

A Texas Tribune poll released June 25 showed Cruz leading O'Rourke, 41-36 percent.
