PHARR. TX (KRLD) - Agents with U.S. Customs and Border Protection seized nearly $13 million worth of methamphetamine over the weekend. The illegal drugs were found hidden inside a shipment of frozen strawberries from Mexico.

The truck carrying the strawberries was stopped for inspection at the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge cargo facility. Agents using non-invasive scanners detected some unusual readings, so the vehicle was referred for additional inspection. Officers found 350 packages of alleged methamphetamine. Officials say the drugs had a street value of $12.7 million. The driver was arrested.

"This was an outstanding interception our officers accomplished this weekend," said Port Director David Gonzalez, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry.
