FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - A  capital murder case against a Benbrook woman accused of smothering her two children with a pillow has come to a close.

Police say Sofya Tsygankova used a pillow to smother her 1-year-old and 5-year-old daughters in March of 2016. She is the ex wife of Cliburn-winning pianist Vadym Kholodenko.

On Monday, Tsygankova was found not guilty by reason of insanity.

Police say Kholodenko found Tsygankova in her room with the dead children, her wrists had been slashed and she was suffering from several self-inflicted stab woulds.

Police found an empty bottle of bi-polar medication in the room and say she had visited a mental health facility in the days before the children were killed.

According to sources, the death penalty was not under consideration in this trial.
