Car Thief Tracked Down By Garland Police

April 11, 2018 - 8:36 am

GARLAND (1080 KRLD) - A man is under arrest, accused of stealing a car. He was tracked down by a police K9 officer.

Garland Police say this all happened after 3:00 a.m. Wednesday when Garland K9 officer McDonald was on duty.

Reports say police spotted a truck that had been reported stolen out of north Garland recently. The man driving the truck took off and led officers on a short chase that stopped in Dallas.

Garland officer Alberto Irrizarry says the man tried to leave the truck behind.

"He (the suspect) ran on foot, pursued by the officers," said Irrizarry. "They took him into custody where he was charged with evading arrest and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle."

Irrizarry says the man likely tried to run away because he already had outstanding warrants for breaking into cars and also for possession of cocaine.
