CARROLLTON (KRLD) - Carrollton police have a new way to be social and share information. You can now find them on the Neighbors app.

The app gives up-to-date crime and safety information. People use it to monitor neighborhood activity and share videos or photos.

Carrollton police will use it to help them in collecting information they need during investigations, such as video from home security cameras.

"Before, we would have to literally knock on doors and ask if people had video they wanted to share with us," says Jolene DeVito, Carrollton police spokeswoman. "Now we can go online and cast a net in a specific area. This app is a win-win."

DeVito says Carrollton police can also use the app as another way to be social and continue building bridges among the community.

The Neighbors app is partnered with Ring, which creates security equipment, but it's not necessary to have any Ring products to use the Neighbors app. It's free to download, and you can customize your neighborhood preferences from there.
