CEDAR HILL (KRLD) - If you get a call from 972-291-5181, don't answer.

Cedar Hill Police say someone is spoofing their non-emergency phone number in a new scam.

Police have heard from concerned residents who have received calls from the scammer.  In some cases, the caller claims that a warrant has been issued for the resident's family member, and that they need to pay a substantial amount of money to take care of it.

In other cases, the scam caller tells the potential victim that they need to contact "Detective Lucas" immediately, regarding sexually-explicit photos of their daughter.  There is no "Detective Lucas" at the Cedar Hill Police Department.

Police want all Cedar Hill residents to know that this is a scam, and that they need to be aware to avoid becoming a victim.
