Little Elm (1080 KRLD) - A three year old child drowned in Lewisville Lake Saturday. The town of Little Elm says she was out with family in Little Elm Park Saturday afternoon when she disappeared.

Police and fire from Little Elm were responding when swimmers spotted the girl.

"The town of Little Elm had staffed up for the weekend, expecting a larger crowd," says Fire Chief Brian Roach. "We had police officers, firefighters and parks personnel at the beach already."

Roach says police and firefighters pulled the girl out of the water and started CPR. He says the girl was unconscious and not breathing.

"What we see on TV, with people flailing their arms and yelling for help, that can happen when someone's having a water emergency," Roach says. "But when they're truly drowning, their body's fighting to survive, and their body is not going to be able to hold itself up."

The girl was pronounced dead at a hospital in Denton. Roach says police and Texas Parks and Wildlife are investigating.
