TEXAS (1080 KRLD)- The Fixer Upper couple will now host a church. Chip and Joanna Gaines have invited a congregation that worships under a Texas highway to use the lawn at Magnolia Market at the Silos for services.

It's because the church meets under I-35 and it's under construction. Jimmy Dorrell is the pastor of the Church Under the Bridge in Waco.

He says, "Their president gave me a call. He said the Gaines want to offer you to move your church over their property at the Silos for Sunday services.  Pastor Dorrell said he just laughed and said he couldn't believe it because it was so remarkable. Pastor Dorrell says, "We looked at their facility. We agreed we would work out liability insurance. It was a really fun encounter that has only gotten better as we've moved on to our final decision."

He says they will meet there in March. Pastor Dorrell says, "We're Christians and they're Christians. They have watched us from afar and we've watched them from afar. So, there's a mutual respect that has gone on behind the scenes."  Pastor Dorrell says, "We serve the poor and the non-profits that serve the poor. We work some globally helping the low-income in Haiti, Mexico and India.

The church's website gives a background for the church. In 1992, a Christian couple from Waco and a Baylor student spent some time getting to know several of the homeless men sleeping under the Interstate 35 bridge. Over the next few months, the men accepted the invitation to meet for Bible study on Sunday mornings at the bridge. The group grew to include more homeless folks, other lower income people, and local community persons who either had no church experience or felt like they did not fit in other local churches.

The Church Under the Bridge website says it welcomes folks from wide and diverse backgrounds to love God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit with all their heart, soul, and mind, and to love their neighbors as themselves.
