City Of Dallas Laying Out Priorities For Improvements To I-30, East Of Downtown

January 29, 2019 - 1:45 pm

DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Dallas City Hall is laying out its own priorities for improvements to I-30 east of downtown.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) last year sent the city its proposals for the I-30 East project, from downtown through Fair Park to Haskell Avenue. They called for widening the freeway, adding more lanes, plus frontage roads and exit ramps.

But Dallas city officials say that would create an even bigger barrier between neighborhoods and several Council Members say they want the re-do to stick to the current footprint for the freeway, or even narrow it where possible.

The City's Transportation Director says a new I-30 should not be any higher or wider than the current freeway.

The full City Council will vote on the city's priority list next month.
