COLLIN COUNTY (KRLD) - A father has learned his sentence and fate in a hot car death in Collin County.

It took a little more than four hours of deliberations, for a Collin County jury to find Michael Thedford guilty of criminally negligent homicide and abandoning or endangering a child in the death of his 6-month-old baby.

Thedford told investigators he dropped off his 3 and 5-year-old children at a daycare center, while his wife was at work. He said he went home and went to sleep, forgetting his 6-month-old daughter was still strapped in car seat inside the minivan. When he discovered her, he put her in a refrigerator to cool her down.

It didn't work.

Thedford was given five years probation and is required to volunteer for two hours on his daughters birthday for each year while on probation with an organization that deals with hot car deaths.
