DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Nine school districts had to start their own bus service when voters shut down Dallas County Schools. Today school bus drivers in Dallas are conducting test runs to make sure kids get to school on time when school opens August 20th.

The Dallas ISD had to hire more than 800 bus drivers. They'll start practicing routes today.

Dallas ISD Transportation Director Kayne Smith says Dallas is adopting many of the same routes as the Dallas County Schools drivers did, but he says a team of people has been working to refine those trips.

Dallas ISD is still looking for drivers, though. Smith says many of those positions are standby spots, when the district would call someone to fill-in for a regular bus driver.
