DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - A teenager born in Dallas has now been released by ICE which detained him for nearly a month because of suspicions he was in the country illegally.

Yesterday, Francisco Erwin Galicia was released after 29 days in custody.

Born in Dallas, Galicia lives in Edinburg.

Last month, he and his brother and some friends were stopped at a Border Patrol checkpoint in Falfurrias. The brother is an illegal immigrant and has been deported. But Galicia is a US Citizen and showed the Border Patrol his documents including his birth certificate showing he was born at Parkland, along with a Social Security card and his Texas state ID.

But agents suspected those might be forgeries so Galicia was detained until they could be verified.

His predicament was complicated because his mother, who is also an illegal immigrantm, took out a US tourist visa in his name while he was still a minor, falsely saying he was born in Mexico.

Once it was confirmed Galicia is an American citizen, he was released.
