DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Housing sales have slowed a bit in North Texas, but sellers in the DFW market are making out great.

If you sold your home in 2018, estimates say you made an average profit of $61,000, but not here in the DFW area.

In the North Texas area,  the average homeowner made nearly $79,000 in profit.

The year 2018 was the most profitable year to sell your house in more than 12 years according to Attom Data Solutions. Those gains totaled 45 percent in Dallas - Fort Worth area.

One of the reasons sellers are walking away with more money at closings is that people are staying in their houses longer.

In DFW, the average seller last year was in their home for just over 7 and a half years.

And while the housing market remains strong there are signs it may start slowing. For example, mortgage rates are ticking up slowly and the new tax law has placed limits on some homeowners deductions.
