DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Dallas police are investigating the second death of a transgender woman in a week.

Lt. Thomas Castro says a severely decomposed body was found floating in White Rock Creek off Merryman Road late Saturday.

"The body was that of a black transgender female around 5'3, 130 pounds. She was wearing a black shirt with black scrubs. There were no identifying marks," he says.

The Dallas police is asking for the public's help in identifying the victim. They have provided a composite sketch.

Last week, a transgender woman was found murdered in an apartment off Preston and LBJ. An arrest has yet to be made. However, Castro does not believe the two cases are related.

They are still trying to determine how the latest victim died. Anyone with information is urged to call police.

Leslie McMurray with the resource center says unfortunately many in the transgender community feel like they are targeted.

"While two deaths in less than a week is concerning, its something many in the community live with on a daily basis. I don't know that we are on alert any more than we are normally," he says.

McMurray does add however that Dallas is considered a safe city for transgender people.
