DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - A North Texas man is now in jail, accused of attacking a transgender woman.

Dallas Police say 29-year-old Edward Thomas was arrested Sunday night for allegedly assaulting Muhlaysia Booker.

Booker was attacked on Friday at the Royal Crest apartments in east Oak Cliff.

Police say it started with a minor traffic accident that Booker was involved in. Witnesses say Thomas was among several people who started assaulting Booker following the accident.

Police say Booker left the hospital yesterday, after being treated for injuries including a broken wrist.

Booker claimed homophobic slurs were also used in the attack, so police are investigating this as a possible hate crime.

Thomas is in jail, but bail has not yet been set and police have not said what charges he'll face.
