DALLAS (KRLD) - Dallas police chief Renee Hall says they're stepping up efforts to boost staffing within the department.

There was a surge in the number of officers leaving the department last year...as state lawmakers set new rules for the pension system.

That exodus has slowed down and Chief Hall says they're working on several fronts to recruit new applicants - including boosting the department's presence on social media. She also says the current officers will play a big role in bringing in new applicants.

"We begin with the slogan 'Our excellence begins with you.' That's important for us because we're asking every officer to be a recruiter," Chief Hall said Monday.

Hall also says they're also holding "recruitment fairs" in other cities, and urging current officers to help with the recruitment process.
