DENTON (KRLD) - A man wanted on bank robbery charges in Denton has been arrested by police in Brookhaven, Georgia. Officers there were alerted to the presence of 36-year-old Walter Cobb by one of the automated license plate readers deployed in their town.

Police in Denton had obtained an arrest warrant for Cobb after identifying him as the suspect in the robbery of the Wells Fargo Bank on West University Drive on Dec. 20 and the Chase Bank on Colorado Boulevard on Dec. 22.

Brookhaven worked with Georgia Power Co. in 2017 to install video cameras and license plate readers on utility poles. The license plate readers were positioned along major roadways leading into and out of the city and in several locations within the city limits. Brookhaven police say one of those scanners picked up the license plate on Cobb's vehicle and sent an alert to officers, who were able to arrest him without incident.

Cobb is being held in the DeKalb County Jail on charges of DUI and possession of a controlled substance (marijuana). He will also face bank robbery charges in Texas.
