Ennis ISD Makes Immediate Changes To School Backpack Policy

March 28, 2018 - 7:52 am

ENNIS (1080 KRLD) - New security measures will take effect immediately at schools in the Ennis ISD, and not everyone likes them.

Officials with the Ennis Independent School District say random backpack searches will be conducted for junior high and high school students, effective immediately.

Also starting next year all students, kindergarten to 12th grade, must use a clear backpack.

Some parents of students in the district says the new policy is an invasion of privacy.

"In other areas they tried this, and it doesn't work" said one parent. "Kids are going to find way to get in things that their not supposed to have."

One parent shared her concerns about girls carrying personal feminine items and that 'certain undergarments' for boys will be on display for everyone to see.

The district says they will also be adding more security cameras, hiring more security officers and requiring ID badges to be worn at all times for junior high and high school students.
