ARLINGTON (1080 KRLD) - A now-former school bus driver in Arlington is behind bars for an alleged sexual encounter with a student.

Chima Lemael Kalu Nsi is charged with sexually assaulting a 17-year-old boy on a school bus late last month.

"The criminal offense is called improper relationship wiuth a student and educator," says Arlington Police Lt. Christopher Cook. "He's actually still in the Arlington Jail. His bond has been set at $15,000."

Cook says police were notified of the incident on October 1st.

"We knew that there was video surveillance and audio recording systems on school buses, and so we were actually able to corroborate what the student told us," he says.

The Arlington ISD took swift action once the allegations came to light early this month.

"We immediately began an investigation, and our bus driver was terminated later that same day," says district spokeswoman Leslie Birdow.

The district performed a background check on Nsi before hiring him over the summer.

"He was hired in early August; and when he was hired, there were no issues in his background that would have indicated any concern," says Birdow.

As for the boy, the district is helping him through his ordeal.

"He is doing well," Birdow says. "The campus has made counselling available to him."
