DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - March Madness is underway and lots of people are placing bets.

Sports attorney Dan Wallach says close to $9 billion will be wagered.

Wallach says while most people place their bets before the games are played, in game wagering is growing in popularity.

In game wagering is where you bet on a game while it's being played.

Sports betting is illegal in Texas and technically that includes office pools.

"Don't collect a vig or a fee for running an office pool . If it's just  a friends and family pool within the office nobody is going to care..just keep it off the internet" says Wallach.

As long as you don't collect a fee for organizing a pool and don't turn it into a money making opportunity you should be fine.
