FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - The Fort Worth Fire Department says it responded to a record number of calls about people illegally using fireworks.

Many cities in North Texas have banned the individual use of fireworks, including the city of Fort Worth.

Fort Worth Fire says it responded to more than 1,500 calls to a hotline set up for people to report fireworks. The department tweeted a picture showing hundreds of calls spread across the city over just one hour Wednesday evening.

In Kaufman County, one woman was air lifted to the hospital when the fire marshal says fireworks went off in her hand.

The fire marshal says she had lit a tube of artillery shells. Several shells fired, but the others exploded in her hand.

InForney.com is reporting she was airlifted to the hospital but never lost consciousness.
