DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Dallas police say a suspected drunk driver going the wrong way hit a car being driven by former City Councilwoman Carolyn Davis Monday night, killing her.

Davis was driving west on Ledbetter in East Oak Cliff about 7:45 Monday night when a car traveling east crossed the center line and hit Davis head-on.

Davis was taken to Baylor Hospital in critical condition where she died.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the Davis family and all of District 7, as we mourn the loss of a D7 champion, Honorable Carolyn Davis," Councilman Adam Bazaldua wrote on Facebook. "Life is precious and can change in an instant, never miss an opportunity to tell those closest to you that you love them!"

Police say a passenger was riding with Davis and also went to the hospital. Bazaldua says the passenger was Davis' daughter, and she is also in critical condition.

Dallas Police Vehicle Crimes Unit says the driver of the other car was drunk. The driver of the other car has been charged with intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault.

Davis served on the Dallas City Council from 2007 to 2015. She pleaded guilty to federal bribery charges earlier this year. Prosecutors say she took $40,000 in bribes to push an affordable housing project through the council.
