FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - A Tarrant County judge has sentenced a former Brewer High School student to 12-years in prison for slashing another student's throat with a pocket knife.

Several students took cell phone video of the May 2017 attack when 18-year old Taj Love attacked a 15-year old fellow student.

Judge Ruben Gonzalez watched the video again before imposing the prison term.

Love pleaded guilty to a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Prosecutor Tim Rogers says one can expect an occasional fight in high school, but this was a different level.

The victim survived the attack but has permanent damage to one of his vocal cords.
