FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - A Fort Worth firefighter is being hailed as a hero after pulling a 5-year-old from a burning home.

Fort Worth Fire Department officials say crews were called to the home on Whitten drive just south of I-20 with flames jetting from the roof.

Captain Bobby Washington says when they arrived they found a policeman and mother both coughing outside. They were pleading with firefighters to save the 5-year-old boy who they said was somewhere in the home.

Washington says as he and his crew made their way upstairs, he came across a room with bunk beds, and found the child whimpering in the corner.

He says making his way back outside the home with the child in his arms was a challenge because of the lack of visibility.

Washington adds he loves his job and the satisfaction that comes with helping people in need.
