FRISCO (1080 KRLD) - Starting this August, the majority of Frisco ISD students will no longer know their class rankings.

Frisco ISD's school board voted to publicly rank only the top ten percent of students. Those outside the top 10 will be told they fall into the top 25, 50, or even 75 percent. Eventually, students will also be allowed to choose an athletics or fine arts class to drop each year from their GPA calculation.

Teachers and school board members hope this will keep students from choosing courses only to boost their GPA. They say students are so fixated on their class rank, they're sacrificing opportunities in athletics, arts, and leadership that would make them more well-rounded.

Plano ISD has heard similar recommendations about limiting class rank. Their school board votes on this issue at a meeting tonight.
