FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - Charles Dean Bryant Jr. has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Texas Women's University student Jackie Vandagriff in 2016.

A jury found Bryant guilty in Vandagriff's murder earlier Monday.

Closing arguments wrapped up this morning in the case of 32-year-old Haslet man, and the jury got the case just after 9:00 a.m. Monday.

The jury reached it's verdict about two and a half hours later.

Bryant was convicted of killing, dismembering and burning 24-year-old Jackie Vandagriff. He was also sentenced to 20 years in prison for tampering with evidence.

Reports say the two had met at a Denton bar hours before she was killed. Her burned, dismembered body was found in a Grapevine park the following morning.

Bryant's defense lawyers claimed Vandagriff died during a risky sexual encounter and in a panic, Bryant burned her remains.

Bryant was in legal trouble before he became a suspect in Vandagriff’s death, according to the Star Telegram. Bryant’s ex-girlfriend had a protective order filed against him.
