Houston Officers Were Shot While Serving Warrant, Governor And Others Respond

HOUSTON (1080 KRLD) - Houston police say five officers have been shot and taken three area hospitals in Houston on the 7800 block of Harding in Southeast Houston. The Harris County Sheriff's Department reported the officers were serving a warrant when they were struck by gunfire. One officers was taken by Life Flight to the hospital but their conditions are unknown. All five officers were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital, according to Houston Police. 

Mayor Sylvester Turner tweeted that one suspect was down but Houston police say it is still an active scene. Police departments across Texas have been tweeting their concerns. Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo asked for prayers for the officers. 

Governor Greg Abbott tweeted a statement saying, "This evening's attack on police officers is a solemn reminder of the service and sacrifice our brave men and women in law enforcement make every day to keep us safe. The city of Houston and the Houston Police Department will have whatever state resources they need to bring swift justice to those involved..." ​

​Harris County Sheriff's Office and ATF are assisting with the investigation. This is a developing story.
