DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Internet addiction is real and it's a growing concern for kids and adults .

Kyle Berger, Chief Technology Officer for the Grapevine-Colleyville School District says to avoid becoming an addict, try limiting screen time to 2 to 3 hours a day.

He says signs of addiction can be having trouble putting the phone down while spending time with family and friends. If that's you,  Berger recommends trying a digital detox, which is going without technology for one week.

"If you think  your kid has a problem around internet addiction or gaming addition let's try that separation  to see if things get a little better" advises  Berger.

He knows it will be hard but he says if you or your child can make it a week you're likely to develop a new and healthier attitude about social media.
