DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - The lockdown and evacuation of an Irving middle school earlier this week was caused by an undercover operation.

A parent at Austin Middle School called police to report a man with a gun in the parking lot of 825 E. Union Bower Rd.

Robert Reeves with police says undercover officers had been in the area serving a warrant, and what the parent saw was one of them loading a gun into their trunk and driving away.

"Sometimes these agents wear normal clothing and then will put on police vests before serving the warrant. The parent saw one of them loading their equipment into an unmarked vehicle and drive off," he says.

Reeves says there was never any threat to the school.

Despite the outcome, Reeves says the parents did exactly what they were supposed to do.

"If you see something suspicious, call police so we can investigate," Reeves says.
