DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - A Dallas County judge has set some ground rules for this month's capital murder trial of Wesley Mathews of Richardson.

Prosecutors will be allowed to present evidence that 3-year old Sherin Mathews suffered significant injuries before her death in October of 2017, and that those injuries went largely untreated.

It's an important point that the State wants to make as it presents its capital murder case against Wesley Mathews.

Matthews is accused in the death of his adopted daughter, then dumping her body in a culvert in Richardson where it went undiscovered for more than a week.

The trial is scheduled for late this month and the judge also ruled that when he is in court Mathews will not be required to be shackled.
