DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Lawmakers from both political parties have toured a detention center near El Paso where teenage boys, seperated from their families, are being held while their parents' are prosecuted for crossing the border illegally.

Democratic Congressman Beto O'Rourke, Democratic state representative Mary Gonzalez and Republican Congressman Will Hurd toured tents and a warehouse in Tornillo where kids are being held.

He says kids are getting free legal help, they're getting three meals a day and have access to showers, but he says the immigration system is broken.

First Lady Melania Trump's office put out a statement saying she "hates" to see kids separated from their families and hopes both sides of the aisle can achieve successful immigration reform.

Former First Lady Laura Bush wrote an op-ed in the Washington Post calling the Trump administration's zero-tolerance policy "cruel and immoral."
