Man Killed In Shootout With Dallas Police Identified

DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - The Dallas County Medical Examiner has now identified the man killed in a Saturday shootout with Dallas police.

It started when a man was wounded in a shooting at an apartment complex on Loop 12 near I-45 in southeast Oak Cliff. He was taken to the hospital but his condition has still not been released.

While at the scene, police got a tip that the  gunman was hiding behind a dumpster a block away. As they approached, officers came under fire. They returned fire, badly wounding the gunman who died at the hospital. 

He has now been named as 30-year-old DiJohn Watkins. 

Police have not said why he shot the other man in the first place.
