IRVING (KRLD) - Firefighters from Irving and Coppell worked for several hours to rescue a man who had gotten trapped in a drainage ditch this afternoon.

They were first called out to an address on Hurd Drive west of Walnut Hill Lane around 1 o'clock.

The man was freed by 3:30 pm and taken to an area hospital for evaluation.

An official with the Irving Fire Department says the man was working on the drainage ditch when it collapsed, trapping him from the waist down.

He was alert and able to communicate with crews while the rescue effort was underway.

A technical rescue crew from the Irving Fire Department was able to remove the debris from the trench with help from the Coppell Fire Department and the worker was taken to a hospital for evaluation as a precaution.
