McKinney City Councilman Arrested On Family Violence Charge

MCKINNEY (1080 KRLD) - A McKinney city councilman has been arrested on a family violence charge. 

Councilman La'Shadion Shemwell was arrested on a charge of continuous violence against a family member, a felony charge.

According to doucuments, a girlfriend claimed there were three seperate incidents of abuse within the past 12 months. 

Shemwell has since been released according to Collin County Records. 

In a Facebook, post Shemwell called allegations "bully tactics" and says "I'm not going anywhere."​

In May, Shemwell was arrested when he refused to sign a citation after he pulled over for speeding. He accused the officer of racial profiling and was caught on video saying he would be "in trouble" for pulling him over. 

Eventually the councilman apologized to the officer and during a council meeting voted to censure himself. 

Details of the current arrest are not yet clear.
