Merger Between Baylor Scott & White, Memorial Hermann Health System Called Off

DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - The mega-merger between Baylor Scott & White and a Houston hospital group has been called off, according to reports.

The powers that be have been discussing the merger for months. Baylor Scott & White was set to merge with Houston's Memorial Hermann Health System, a marriage that would have created the largest hospital system in Texas.

But those merger talks are now off.

In a joint statement, both health systems say the timing is not right for the merger, insisting they will continue work to provide the best health care possible to the communities they serve and will work together whenever possible.

The merger would have created a health system with 68 hospitals and nearly $15 billion in annual revenue.

Critics complained the merger would have lead to high healthcare costs.
