DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - While authorities continue the search for a missing Grand Prairie couple, their families are now dealing with the loss of their young kids who have been removed from the families' custody.

It was February 5th when both Weltzin Garcia and Alfonso Hernandez were last seen. Their car was found abandoned at White Rock lake. Police are now using sonar and other equipment to search the lake itself for any sign of the two.

Meanwhile, CPS has confirmed that due to some security concerns for the safety of the children, a 3 and a 6-year old, were removed from the family last Friday and placed in a foster home.

The agency would not comment on why the children were taken.

Before the couple went missing police say Hernandez assaulted Garcia and still has an active assault warrant out for his arrest.

A hearing is set for Friday which could determine if the children are placed with either family or continue in foster care
