GRAND PRAIRIE (KRLD) - A Grand Prairie couple's two young kids will remain in foster care for now, as their family continues to fight for custody.

Weltzin Garcia and Alfonso Hernandez haven't been seen in 10 days. Their 3 and 6-year-old kids were put in foster care soon after their estranged parents disappeared. The Garcia family has been fighting for custody, but a court decided they need to perform safety checks and meet with attorneys before they could release the kids to them.

Garcia's twin sister Atziry Mireles took charge of the kids after the couple disappeared, but only had them a short while before CPS placed them in foster care. Mireles says their family needs each other, and the kids’ place is with her.

Grand Prairie police say there's still been no sign of Garcia and Hernandez, not since they found Hernandez's car at White Rock Lake last week.

The Garcia family will be in court again next week, where a final choice about the kids could be made.
