IRVING (1080 KRLD) - And with the Summer heat comes mosquitoes, and West Nile has already been found in North Texas.

As expected, officials from Dallas County Health and Human Services announced that a sample of mosquitoes found in the Irving area has tested positive for the virus.

Renea Crutchfield with the Health Department says the discovery is common for this time of year.

"Last season we had a positive trap in the first week of May, we've even seen some as early as the first week of April" said Crutchfield. "This is something we have expected."

She says they don't expect human cases to start showing up for the next few months, but urges residents to take precautions, such as using anti mosquito repellant and to drain any areas that may have standing water.
