Nationwide Customs System Crash Causes Airport Delays

August 16, 2019 - 4:28 pm

DALLAS (NBC5 DFW) - A computer problem involving the U.S. Customs and Border Protection snarled air travel on Friday, officials said, and travelers posted photos of long lines around the country.

"Customs is experiencing a system shutdown nationwide," Kennedy Airport put on its official account just after 4 p.m. ET. "They are processing passengers manually until the system comes back online."

Just after 4:30 p.m. ET, the Los Angeles airport tweeted that customs systems "are experiencing an issue which appears to be impacting multiple airports including LAX. Officers are processing passengers manually so please check with your airline for the latest status of any flight impacts."
