DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Everyone's talking about this new phone scam.

All weekend along, people were posting on social media about how they were getting random calls from Sierra Leone at all hours of the night.

It’s called the “One Ring” scam and they're trying to get you to pick up or call the international number back, resulting in high phone charges.

The FCC said this scam has increased more than 2000% in just one week!

Obviously, DO NOT answer the call or return it!

Other Consumer Tips:

  • Do not call back numbers you do not recognize, especially those appearing to originate overseas.
  • File a complaint with the FCC if you received these calls: www.fcc.gov/complaints
  • If you never make international calls, consider talking to your phone company about blocking outbound international calls to prevent accidental toll calls.
  • Check your phone bill for charges you don’t recognize.
