HOUSTON (1080 KRLD) - Naps aren't just for kids. Sometimes adults need them too. And to that end, Khaliah Guillory is opening up a space in Houston called the Nap Bar. Customers can choose from a 20 minute power nap to a four hour snooze. "I'm a former executive at a Fortune 500 company and I slept in my car more times than not during the week just so I could get some energy to finish my day."

At check in, clients will receive a warmed neck pillow and will select an aromatherpy scent. They will lie down in sound proof custom-patented napping pods on organic, non-toxic mattress and bedding. They will hear a brainwaves mix to lull them to sleep. "Brainwaves are this really genius idea from a scientific background, that when you listen to custom beats with a certain rhythm and rapid beats per minute, it allows your frontal lobe to reduce the stress in your body and implement more melatonin."

An article published on says lack of sleep costs the United States $63 billion a year in lost productivity, "NASA conducted a study on sleepy military pilots and astronauts and found that a 26 minute power nap resulted in a 34 percent increase in productivity as well as a 54 percent increase in alertness."

The charge will be $25 for a 20-minute power nap, $32 for a 26-minute nap.

This Nap Bar opens at the end of April and Guillory says it will be the first business of its kind in Texas.  She notes nap-based businesses are popular in Europe and Asia.
