ALLEN (KRLD) - Allen High School has extra counselors on hand Monday for students and teachers struggling with the murder of a student over the weekend. Plano police say Marquell Ellis, Jr., 16, was killed Saturday evening.

Plano police were called about 10 p.m. Saturday to a report of shots fired at a home on Peachtree Lane, near Spring Creek Parkway and Parker Road. They arrived and found Ellis had been shot. He died at the hospital.

"I was sitting in my bedroom and then all I hear is nine or ten quick gunshots," says Christopher Cook, a 15 year old neighbor. "I didn't really think much of it; I thought it was firecrackers."

Allen ISD confirmed Ellis was the victim. He played football at Allen High School. His coach says his teammates loved him; he says Ellis was a wide receiver on the varsity team, but he also played junior varsity for more playing time.

Monday morning, Plano police had not made any arrests, but they say there is no ongoing threat to the public. They say no one at the party Saturday night owned the house.

"The house was rented at an online marketplace, a temporary rental," says the Plano Police Department's Stephanie Benjamin.

Plano police say several people had been kicked out of a party at the house Saturday night before someone fired several shots into the home from outside. Police spent Sunday at the house gathering evidence, including video from a doorbell camera at the house.

Ellis' family set up a GoFundMe page to pay for his funeral.
