FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - American Airlines is extending the Boeing 737 MAX cancellations through mid-January as regulators review proposed software changes for the aircraft.

That extends the cancellations from December 3rd until at least January 15th, 2020.

Fort Worth-based American Airlines issued a statement saying the company expects to gradually resume MAX flights starting January 16th.

The MAX has been grounded worldwide since mid-March.

Dallas-based Southwest Airlines has cancelled flights through January 5th, and United Airlines until at least December 19th.

Boeing has repeatedly said it hopes to resume flights in the fourth quarter, which began on Oct. 1.
