ARLINGTON (1080 KRLD) - Arlington residents can now add 'Citibot' to their contacts list.

It's the name of a new pilot program that allows people to text the city using artificial intelligence. The interactive messaging system allows people to report problems like stray animals, shabby fences and potholes to their local government.

People can also ask Citibot questions, and usually the bot will be able to answer them using information on the city's website. If Citibot can't answer the question, it'll connect users with someone who can.

"It's a way for people to interact with their government," said Jay Warren, Director of Communication and Legislative Affairs for the City of Arlington. "People get more information quickly, and report issues to the city to be repaired or fixed,"

Warren says Arlington is the second city in Texas to implement the program, with Celina being the first.  The City will test Citibot's functionality and how residents embrace the technology as part of a one-year pilot program, funded by the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation.
